Groups and Workshops

Holding Space

I've always enjoyed the diversity of group work. There is something powerful about sitting alongside people who are asking similar questions, facing similar challenges, or trying to make sense of a shared experience. Sometimes the most important thing we discover is not a new skill or strategy, but the powerful realization that we are not alone. Over the years, I've facilitated groups, workshops, training, and community conversations in hospitals, schools, community settings, outdoor environments, and mental health services across both the UK and Canada. What continues to draw me to this work is the opportunity to bring people together to learn about emotional regulation, reflect, share ideas, build practical skills related to executive functioning, and have conversations that might not otherwise happen. Some sessions are structured and educational, focusing on professional learning. Others are more reflective and discussion-based. All are designed to be practical, engaging, and relevant to today's busy lives. Depending on the group, we may meet indoors, outdoors, or use a combination of both. Sometimes movement, nature, and shared experience help people access conversations in ways that sitting in a room cannot. Whether we're talking about relationships, neurodiversity, chronic illness, parenting, resilience, or the realities of helping work, my approach remains the same: practical, relational, and grounded in the belief that people are more than their diagnoses, symptoms, or circumstances. Space for Your Story. A Holding Space Story Work women's group

Space for Your Story. A Holding Space Story Work women's group

Space for Your Story. A Holding Space Story Work women's group

Over 30 years ago, I ran my first experiential group for women who were struggling with big emotions getting in the way of their everyday life.

I loved group work then, and I still do.

It can be quite special to sit in a room and realise that some of the things you've been carrying on your own aren't actually yours alone.

Looking back, what mattered most in my therapeutic work was not a diagnosis or a label. It was giving clients a space to be heard, connect, learn new ways of coping and begin to see themselves, their possibilities and maybe a little differently. That has stayed with me.

This isn't a group about fixing you, and it's not about giving you another label.

It's about making space for your story.

The stories you carry about yourself. The roles you've taken on. The parts of you that might have become a little quieter along the way. What still fits. What doesn't. And what you might want the next part of your story to look like.

We'll draw on narrative therapy, music, art, exploring the stories we tell about ourselves and making room for other stories, strengths and possibilities that sometimes get lost when life is overwhelming.

The group will explore practical emotional-regulation skills and use creative and experiential activities including conversation, art, music, movement and, when the BC weather cooperates, time outdoors.

There will be space to reflect, connect, be curious, and explore your own story at a pace that feels right for you.

You don't need to arrive knowing exactly what you want to change.

You can simply arrive as you are.

Because this is a closed group, we'll journey through the 12 weeks together. I'll meet individually with everyone beforehand so we can have a chat, talk about what you're hoping for, answer any questions and make sure the group feels like the right fit for you.

Executive Functioning in Everyday Life

Space for Your Story. A Holding Space Story Work women's group

Space for Your Story. A Holding Space Story Work women's group

Executive functioning plays a crucial role in how we plan, organize, manage emotions, initiate tasks, solve problems, and navigate everyday responsibilities. Difficulties in these areas can impact individuals, couples, and entire families. This group focuses on practical, skills-based learning for those who want to go beyond merely understanding executive functioning and start experimenting with strategies that enhance emotional regulation and simplify daily life.

Sessions are held every two weeks, providing ample time between meetings to practice new ideas in real-life situations. Participants are encouraged to bring their current challenges, collaboratively explore possible solutions, and develop personalized approaches that suit their unique circumstances.

Between group sessions, individuals can access a brief online check-in to review their progress, troubleshoot difficulties, and adapt their strategies prior to returning to the group.

Topics include:

- Planning and organization

- Motivation and procrastination

- Emotional regulation

- Building effective routines

- Reducing shame and self-criticism

- Supporting neurodivergent family members

- Strength-based approaches to executive functioning

No diagnosis is necessary. The emphasis is on practical learning, experimentation, and identifying strategies that work in real life, rather than conforming to a specific model.

Finding Your Professional Voice; A Reflective Supervision Group for Social Work and Psychotherapy

Over the past three decades I've worked across child protection, mental health, youth services and psychiatry. Alongside my clinical work, I've supported and supervised Social Workers at different stages of their careers, navigating complex work.

As a qualified Supervisor, Registered Social Worker, Registered Clinical Counsellor and psychotherapist with over 30 years experience, I've seen one theme emerge time and time again:

Thoughtful, ethical and capable practitioners quietly question whether they're good enough.

The group will offer space to think, reflect and grow. Together we'll explore the challenges that so often sit quietly beneath competent practice.

Together we'll explore:

  • Navigating impostor syndrome and professional self-doubt
  • Developing confidence in your clinical judgement
  • Finding your own therapeutic voice, no need to compare
  • Reflective discussion of clinical themes and professional identity
  • Working with uncertainty, perfectionism and self-criticism
  • Building sustainable, ethical and confident practice
  • Learning alongside other helping professionals through reflective discussion and shared experience

This group offers a place to pause, reflect and continue growing wherever you are in your career. This of this group like an adult Montessori, all levels welcome and valid. Be, at your pace.

Professional Practice Statement

This group is designed to support professional development, reflective practice, clinical confidence and ethical decision-making. It is intended as an adjunct to—and not a replacement for—individual clinical supervision required by employers, insurers, professional colleges or regulatory bodies.

Participants remain professionally responsible for their own practice. This includes maintaining appropriate supervision, practicing within their scope of competence, meeting the standards of their professional college or association, and ensuring that any client material discussed within the group is fully anonymized. This group follows CPD, continuing professional development requirements.

As facilitator, I will lead the group in establishing clear agreements, maintaining appropriate professional boundaries, supporting reflective discussion, ethical practice and respond appropriately to concerns that arise within the group. Attendance and broad themes of discussion will be documented as part of professional record keeping. This group does not provide formal case management, employer oversight, or clinical governance.

Confidentiality is fundamental to the group. All participants will be expected to respect the privacy of fellow members and ensure that any discussion of clinical work is anonymized in accordance with professional, ethical and legal obligations.

This group is reflective and educational in nature. Where a participant's needs would be better met through individual clinical supervision, consultation, personal psychotherapy, or another professional service, this will be discussed and appropriate recommendations or referrals made where appropriate.

Education, Speaking & Community Conversations

Finding Your Professional Voice; A Reflective Supervision Group for Social Work and Psychotherapy

Finding Your Professional Voice; A Reflective Supervision Group for Social Work and Psychotherapy

Drawing on more than 30 years of experience in Social Work, mental health, healthcare, youth services, and community practice, I offer talks, workshops, and facilitated conversations that combine practical ideas, frontline experience, evidence-informed practice, and a little humor.

I am particularly interested in how people and organizations thrive, focusing on emotional regulation and executive functioning. How do we support wellbeing before burnout occurs? How do we recognize strengths that may not fit traditional expectations? How do we retain talented, creative individuals whose gifts may look different from those around them?

I am also passionate about the power of language, documentation, and the stories we write about others. The words we choose matter. Notes, reports, assessments, and records can influence opportunities, shape perceptions, and affect people's lives long after a conversation has ended.

Sessions can be tailored for organizations, schools, healthcare settings, community groups, conferences, and professional learning days.

Bookings are now being accepted for autumn and winter 2026.

Availability is limited, so early enquiries are encouraged.
